Allen Kent Rogers
I hitch hiked with Allen Kent Roger from Illinois to Mexico and back in the early 70's. I'll never forget it. He was a hitch hiking legend...
tribute by John ReifsnyderI was walking down Union Street on a foggy San Francisco afternoon in the mid-80's when I heard a familiar voice shout "Weeeee Beeeeee." It was Kent, who had moved to Berkeley and drove a cab in SF. We reconnected over adult beverages and saw each other a few more times before he died. He was a dedicated runner and had a similar condition that took Jim Fixx at about the same time. Now that the statute of limitations has passed, I can confess it was Kent who masterminded the planting of M-80's with a timing wire on the roof of the gym, which disrupted a pre-graduation event. Apologies to those who were honored that evening.
tribute by Richard WiebeThis is the guy I miss the most from our class. We both worked at UPS when we were still in high school. We worked part time on the night shift. He was my best man at my wedding in 1975. Like Curt stated he saw the world in the time he was here. Traveled everywhere and knew how to travel on a dime. Remembered him living in India on only fifty cents a week. He was going to be a writer and took a massive amount of notes while traveling. Only problem was I couldn't read his writing. He sent me ashes from Mt. St. Helens as a momento. Went to his parents house to video tape them out in Mendota because Kent wanted a remembrance of them after they were gone. Who would of guessed he would go with his parents. I think Curt is wrong about how old he was. I believe he was only 33 not 39. He would have been a great writer and I wonder what he could have done. Have missed him all these years.....................
tribute by Robert WeipertThis is the guy I know the most about. From kindergarten at Tioga to hitch-hiking across Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and California. He took traveling on the cheap seriously. He as in Afhganistan when the Russians started their occupation, 1980. He met Peter Townsend of the WHO in India. Along with contracting hepetisis. He tried to do and see a lot around the world. He wanted to be a writer. When he died age 39 his father didn't know what to do with boxes of pages of notes and stories he left behind. Ive got more to share at the reunion. Curt
